00:00:00:
00:00:01: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to this episode of Radio Golf Show.
00:00:06: We have a coaching summit.
00:00:10: we Have two of our golf show all stars who've been on this program regularly?
00:00:16: um...we have Adi Oliphson Who is A CPG five-star professional award winner.
00:00:22: And we have Ted Long was a four time PGA of Germany teacher of the year.
00:00:26: both Have coached tour players.
00:00:29: they have developed youngsters.
00:00:32: They're very much involved in developing youngsters and prepare them for the life as a professional golfer, successful personal golfer hopefully.
00:00:43: Now we want to talk particular...in this program about why it is that Germany which experienced sort of
00:00:52: boom
00:00:53: several years ago with bunch players showing up on European tour has now three, four or five years later sunk back into a funk
00:01:07: and
00:01:08: seems to be treading water.
00:01:10: First of all Ted and Adi welcome And I very much look forward this episode To hear you guys Fachsimpeln how we say in German About why the situation Has come about what can possibly Be done about it.
00:01:30: Ted, why don't you lead us off and give us a starting point where we can jump into this?
00:01:36: Okay good.
00:01:36: So first of all on the women's side there are probably some people jumping up down saying hey were actually doing pretty well And when you take somebody like Helen Bream who to me is like generational talent.
00:01:49: You know her being big strong.
00:01:51: I've known her since she was a kid.
00:01:52: really nice person whole family nice people right.
00:01:55: She's doing phenomenally Lily Ryder, who actually speaks about twenty-two languages fluently.
00:02:01: I met her when she was a kid at the tournament and i was amazed.
00:02:04: She's gotten to be pretty good sized girl...I mean athletically obviously.
00:02:09: And uh..she just won The German girls and in my rankings top five In Europe!
00:02:15: I think there are alot of things going on On the women side So you can't really say that they're suffering but We're like stalling out, you know and we're not moving forward.
00:02:33: And I know that the coaches involved are asking those questions.
00:02:37: why?
00:02:38: So i will tell you...and I've said this to Uli Eckhart who's a really good friend of mine-we talk about this all the time right now!
00:02:46: Trust me anybody is listening to this..I can tell you these guys are extremely dedicated to what they're doing him and Christoph Hermann Pascal Is.
00:02:54: it is another guy?
00:02:56: I mean these guys.
00:02:56: are i really like these guys?
00:02:58: and they're asking good questions.
00:03:00: Okay, so here's what.
00:03:01: I would tell you I said a lot of times things go well But just get.
00:03:07: if you think about it.
00:03:08: You only really need two or three guys doing well on tour at a couple Challenger players to win a couple tournaments And look like they're moving on and suddenly looks like we're doing great.
00:03:20: right.
00:03:21: but I would say this if you were gonna go to a bank and send me two million dollars To start this business.
00:03:27: They took it.
00:03:28: what's your business plan?
00:03:29: What's your mission statement, And then they're going to ask you okay that sounds good.
00:03:33: How are you projecting out your revenue?
00:03:37: You know plus-and-minus over the next three six year Three or five years?
00:03:44: right because you have to be able to measure.
00:03:49: What do you expect?
00:03:50: you can't just sell.
00:03:51: we'll make a lot of money.
00:03:53: They're gonna want to know what the plan is because at some point you might come in and say hey things going really, really well We need another two million.
00:04:00: And these are the figures we think we're gonna get.
00:04:02: that's gonna give You a better return on your money?
00:04:06: If you're hitting all those numbers It makes you sound like you're uh... What's the word in English?
00:04:11: Calvary's believable.
00:04:14: Yeah, how birdie?
00:04:16: no people wall And they can say, okay this guy's got his stuff together.
00:04:19: We like what he's doing right?
00:04:20: This is moving forward nicely and a lot of banks are interested also in the community so there isn't just making money.
00:04:27: So the thing I would say is... ...and i would say Adi & I have by far the most experience at this.
00:04:36: Every year it seems to be kind of different plan or adjustment To what their'e going with all the way up to team Germany.
00:04:46: The biggest problem my opinion There needs to be more oversight on every level.
00:04:52: So what does that mean?
00:04:53: If you start at the pro level, if you're going to be part of team Germany and get some support which is a phenomenal opportunity because I can tell you what England once you turn pro they forget What's your name spelled.
00:05:06: okay And that goes through the bank.
00:05:08: Because i talked to a lot Of coaches from Denmark Italy.
00:05:13: i'm out there Italy uh France all The big ones.
00:05:15: i'm Out there on tour tonight and i talk To these guys And we really got something special here, but the problem is a lot of these kids as they grow up.
00:05:23: They're in these little subcultures either.
00:05:25: there was some coach at Some golf club and that guy doesn't really want to get anybody else involved He wants to do everything right?
00:05:34: Then then when you get good enough till I say get top five on the pro-golf tour.
00:05:39: Now they're on The Challenge Tour.
00:05:41: So team Jeremy says well hey let's give this guy chance.
00:05:43: But they don't necessarily Say Hey We Want To See Your Business Plan.
00:05:49: We want to see the strengths and weaknesses of your player.
00:05:52: What are you going to do?
00:05:53: To make them better?
00:05:54: what results would you expect him to have?
00:05:56: I'm not talking about scoring averages, i'm talking about Results.
00:06:00: You've got stuff out there like up game that tracks everything About your ball strike in Your putting a whole nine yards right And you should be able to say okay This is what we expect.
00:06:09: and after The first three months he said Okay this Is better but this is worse.
00:06:12: ok what adjustments Are you gonna Make?
00:06:14: Right how Do you explain this lack Of performance?
00:06:18: And when you're able to do that You're able look into a system and say what's this person doing really?
00:06:25: Really well, so let's see.
00:06:26: There are six different systems in Germany.
00:06:28: I'm just making the number up okay from something on road out of Berlin, you know me some other people Just as an example right.
00:06:36: they do stuff regularly in the hallways.
00:06:38: another good example Right once you sit there and say Wow again really man.
00:06:43: This guy is who really get through it at short game.
00:06:45: Well, I hope so.
00:06:45: he has got short-game coached right by lean.
00:06:49: You might say hey these guys there are they drive the ball really, really well.
00:06:52: They got a horrible short game.
00:06:54: Nothing against belly and it's they could have to be sure.
00:06:57: I'm just making this up.
00:06:58: Okay Stanley on road without question The most fit guy is out There.
00:07:02: great fitness program.
00:07:03: put A lot of effort into that.
00:07:05: right my Guys Really good players.
00:07:08: Right because i teach them from very at birth To Be tough Adaptable to situations.
00:07:13: But don't Have all the resources That have sent me on Road or even Of Or what do you call it a bird of Berlin or anybody else to say, okay?
00:07:22: We're gonna get you with the top fitness trainer.
00:07:24: You know if your hat I don't have enough time To do everything.
00:07:27: so i'm going to send you up see Ian Holloway And and I would definitely Do that.
00:07:30: If I was someplace like Santa Land Road I Would definitely involve people That are top in their areas.
00:07:36: they come and work With the players worthy my top players right.
00:07:39: I think you Have to outsource.
00:07:42: you cannot do Everything for everybody.
00:07:44: go terms and do everything and really be all-encompassing on a player.
00:07:49: So then you're able to say, hey, Salion is phenomenal fitness and putting.
00:07:57: I'm just making these numbers up.
00:07:59: stop more slumber listen that it's okay.
00:08:01: i'm just makin this up as an example because you guys do such a good job over there.
00:08:04: but over here Ian's group is really good on short game.
00:08:08: so i'm gonna say what are they doing?
00:08:10: That we're not doing!
00:08:11: And i'm a coach right and when i'm out You know, how'd you get this guy from here to hear?
00:08:16: He looks good.
00:08:17: We talk about that stuff right we're not proud.
00:08:20: We all know that we have the learn-to-get where we are and you never stop learning.
00:08:24: And then and then you're able to say okay Here's team Germany That sitting up there this this office is hot in German.
00:08:32: No This cloud it's The voice of everything you know sees through everything and start saying hey look You need to think about doing this.
00:08:41: now somebody starts working against ya.
00:08:44: then you gotta say, okay look good luck to ya.
00:08:49: We're not gonna invest resources into this program if we are not able to hold you accountable for using those resources.
00:08:58: does that make sense?
00:09:00: And thats one of the biggest sticking points right now.
00:09:04: is there's guys out there and I think Uli who has been on tour.
00:09:07: he was a good player Mean.
00:09:10: he's seen so many good players.
00:09:11: He can watch guys play it.
00:09:12: You could tell you what's good and bad right?
00:09:14: any coach?
00:09:15: Can look at the stats, right?
00:09:18: Players looking stats.
00:09:19: Oh do you know that?
00:09:20: you should know that yourself?
00:09:22: now I'm looking at this statue one in the golf ball.
00:09:24: Right a coach would.
00:09:26: no oh This guy yeah, he doesn't drive well actually drives up pretty well But as soon is it of games on the lounge he drives it poorly.
00:09:34: That has nothing to do with technique.
00:09:36: That's a personal issue.
00:09:38: my god I've got a saying and adi you probably know this one in an Iceland Never look for technical solution to a personal problem.
00:09:47: Okay You should be out there watching the players play.
00:09:50: okay golf is played?
00:09:53: You have just the player.
00:09:54: Is the person hitting the ball, you have to know how this guy ticks How he works inside-and-out right.
00:10:00: And then if he's got weaknesses, you'll have to address The weakness.
00:10:03: talk of what's bothered me here.
00:10:05: Get him into situations where you teach them how to deal with those situations.
00:10:09: Okay, this should be done at very early age.
00:10:12: I do start that in twelve and fourteen okay?
00:10:14: i'm talking about on the course taking guys out insituations say what in hell are we so damn scared about?
00:10:19: ok And dealing with that if You have top coaches and The nice thing I think About the team Germany Coaches is trust me In most cases there's nothing Subjective or personal involved.
00:10:32: These are objective guys that they're trying to do the best possible job They can possibly do and there more.
00:10:38: There are not going to go in there to make the coach look bad, they're not gonna Go on their to make a player looked at.
00:10:43: they're just Gonna Put some light shed some light into this situation saying hey This really needs to be addressed right?
00:10:51: And At The point which we all come together and Really realize Hey, this is really cool Right It's only good for everybody.
00:11:00: It's nice for me to be able call up Audi.
00:11:02: Audi say look a man What'd you do with so-and-so?
00:11:04: because I'm having the same issue With this guy over here, but the problem in Germany is Because everybody's so wrapped up and You know The logo on their shirt.
00:11:12: And oh we got to Be better than them.
00:11:14: No you come to us if your Having problems.
00:11:17: that's bullshit Okay?
00:11:18: I have always coached players from other teams Even In the Bundesliga.
00:11:23: i coach guys On our opponent's team Cuz II Coach people.
00:11:26: I don't coach logos okay And that's one of the reasons I was successful to recruit people because i care about People and I recruit that kind of people.
00:11:35: Because, To me The environment That all kids at our age Live in is what helps them develop.
00:11:43: it makes him feel good It pushes them but At the same time they know They can come back and say hey i'm having issues Maybe talk to their friends maybe Talked with a coach whatever it Is?
00:11:56: There's way, way too much profilo Rosa.
00:11:59: You know there's too many people out there worried about oh i'm gonna look weak if it's so-and-so If I ask someone to question all that stuff It totally is and i'll give you a really good example.
00:12:08: Craig Miller Who?
00:12:10: Absolutely love.
00:12:11: he's one of the most authentic People on the planet.
00:12:14: He did him.
00:12:15: He didn't.
00:12:16: he did a podcast with you And he was so open about hey, I don't know what anything.
00:12:20: we take him to this guy.
00:12:21: He really knows a lot.
00:12:22: We take them with this guy.
00:12:23: i'm always trying to get him around.
00:12:25: the right people were Always learning What an amazing thing for a guy To say who's one of the top coaches in europe That he just wants his player to get better.
00:12:33: my god You know?
00:12:34: He went and he went took lessons For a while from marin and i think marin did A good job technically.
00:12:40: but you Know marins that is swing coach.
00:12:42: Right swing coaches always look for answers to the swing.
00:12:46: They don't look for the player's side of it.
00:12:48: and Craig, who I know because i saw him when he was younger.
00:12:50: He was a really good player!
00:12:53: He knows the game right?
00:12:54: And is always taught from the game back.
00:12:58: Other people teach From The Technique In Right?
00:13:01: It Really Starts From Playing Of The Game.
00:13:04: I think that he Is A Really Good Example.
00:13:06: You See Schmidtie Who Is A Very Nice Guy.
00:13:10: He Is The Most Spectacular Person.
00:13:11: He Just A Wonderful Human Being Right?
00:13:15: You see how well they're doing and then have a really great relationship.
00:13:18: They go all over the place together, you know He.
00:13:20: he writes.
00:13:21: many goes Teddy or we'll really having problems with the driver.
00:13:24: I said let me see your swing And i saw this swing and i looked at it.
00:13:28: I think you need to To Me.
00:13:29: you're not getting deep enough in the right side Your pelvis, you Know just that any other feels interesting will give it A try right.
00:13:36: Who else would say That?
00:13:38: i mean there's very few people that Would get to that level.
00:13:41: and you know i've talked to him events.
00:13:44: Last time I saw him was stage two of the qualifying school and i said to him you know, so I just wish I could inject in with a little bit at this.
00:13:54: You Know hoping that Craig through all his experiences which are different than mine because he grew up in Scotland Could shed some light on the situation And it's just so fun to sit there With somebody like that?
00:14:05: Just talk about In the nature Of this whole discussion or not?
00:14:08: Discussion what would we call an open forum is after we had our last podcast and Adi and I just started talking about all this stuff.
00:14:17: Anyway, that's my take on the thing.
00:14:20: Adi?
00:14:20: Take over!
00:14:20: I'll
00:14:21: be quiet... And Adi you've spent time maybe people don't know that you spend many years in Germany coaching.
00:14:28: so um You can certainly shed some light onto this In the way i understand it.
00:14:33: what Ted is saying Is That We Have All The Components.
00:14:36: We Just Don'T Know How To Put Them Together Or Use.
00:14:41: Now, what I'm saying is we're too scared to admit.
00:14:43: We don't have all the answers and scared to ask the question who's got the answers?
00:14:49: And give up some of the responsibility To people above us just say okay We're gonna let you judge our performance here as a coaching or as a team so that we can move forward.
00:15:01: That Is The Problem.
00:15:04: Yeah one thing if we look back at where it started If you just look at how it's built up in Germany, we don't really have enough really good qualified elite coaches.
00:15:21: There are not that many who're up to the job.
00:15:25: and if I go down like because I worked for a long time for twenty years We had six very qualified coaches dealing with from the young, then they moved up to next level.
00:15:40: So people were actually specialized in what we're doing and I wouldn't say that we had a great success.
00:15:46: but it has something do with either of these cities.
00:15:48: But still we got Alex on tour and see he's doing fine.
00:15:51: We've got Philip and May on tour at this time And this is moving okay.
00:15:56: In the end there will need more qualities if you think about PGA Ausbildung and further education.
00:16:08: It's not really that much there, but you can go to if you want to be a really good elite cosplayer.
00:16:16: so That system needs the big of You know together next level And I should say when you get out.
00:16:23: even people really high quality People start to meet each other to learn them and being involved in our community because it is no Community in Germany off elite cosplay where they are sharing ideas, talking to each other working things together.
00:16:37: Everybody is as Ted said very occupied of the logo that they have and really trying not share knowledge or what you need before we get a community with the best coaches which allowed all future coaches in there for discussion on development.
00:17:00: we're not going to get any much further.
00:17:04: There's a lot of good things going on, and there are lots changes.
00:17:07: as I've said when they changed the Bundesliga because it would have more of an old disguise to play longer with more competition getting into teams The youngsters had work harder Of course then... the players that make their national team that gets in Germany has to get different tournaments, different things.
00:17:32: But it's still quite amazing.
00:17:34: how few of them really, you see the quick path up into a tour and success because we were starting with The Girls.
00:17:48: I remember when Alex and Max won the European Young Masters.
00:17:55: do you remember that Ted?
00:17:55: he's a ninety seven
00:17:58: so that would
00:17:58: have been uh two thousand
00:17:59: two thousand sixteen i think thirteen.
00:18:01: He
00:18:02: is a ninety-seven
00:18:06: or ninety...
00:18:07: yeah it's okay.
00:18:08: thirteen, yeah long
00:18:09: time ago.
00:18:10: Yeah.
00:18:10: and the thing is because that comes to be coaching part of the idea what we are dealing with in nutshell you know all I mean had great opportunity.
00:18:24: just tell us little story.
00:18:26: I was cutting for a player on the challenge tour.
00:18:30: And with me, there's Manastero in the flight and Max is made!
00:18:37: The funny thing both of them were guys who never actually seen a coach in their life that really coached them.
00:18:42: technically They're both junior stars.
00:18:47: they could hit the ball at the age of seventeen, eighteen or nineteen.
00:18:51: But when feelings start getting away When thinking faded, the faith didn't come it didn't have approval to do
00:18:57: That's exactly right.
00:18:59: Yeah, and so both of them just lost their cars.
00:19:04: they lost the confidence to start again And that is one of the philosophies in a country like Germany where we actually are facing our winter.
00:19:15: We need use time make those players knowledgeable on what they're doing And we need to trust them, too.
00:19:26: We have a youngster of fifteen-sixteen years old and you cannot just let him do it brainlessly and think that's gonna work when he comes for the tour.
00:19:38: You need to educate his players much better.
00:19:41: I said one thing that knowledgeable is where it starts.
00:19:45: But the idea.
00:19:46: but the knowledgeable because has to understand He's responsible.
00:19:50: what going on?
00:19:51: Stop blaming.
00:19:52: Oh, I switch coaches.
00:19:55: Everything's a lot better now.
00:19:56: Yes sure it is just like with the girlfriend.
00:19:58: oh wow this girl she's a Lot more fun than the old ones.
00:20:01: okay good call me in three months Okay?
00:20:03: i mean When that what i mean That's uh very very good point.
00:20:08: i would Like to say This Because you talk about The bundles league and not A lot of success from the bundles League.
00:20:15: ok And our guys?
00:20:16: we probably could have won More finals but i let my Guys play the big tournaments right Had a lot of success.
00:20:24: so the lot of work.
00:20:25: one year in France We had four to six guys came from on him that played the AMM, but only say who I love.
00:20:33: You know always.
00:20:33: it is a really good guy and he did a lot for my son Hurley.
00:20:38: He was big into all these legging where you go out?
00:20:41: And you do this team building and all his stuff right.
00:20:44: So by the end of the season between that playing a ton of events an already have plain eight events since february when he played in the united states these guys are checked out of the net.
00:20:53: they're gone you with me nothing left and just a day after their flying to the state's already gone.
00:20:59: They don't care right?
00:21:01: so my thing about the bundles league which i think would help.
00:21:05: okay first of all, I would have three regions.
00:21:08: then you'd have four teams in each region.
00:21:11: The winners top-three will go on And the last speed talk ,the Top Three Second Place Guys come together.
00:21:18: Okay, what does that do?
00:21:19: First of all it gives you next a week where guys can go out play big event.
00:21:23: Ok It's not as stressful number two.
00:21:26: What I would do is we have eight and three eight players.
00:21:29: Three.
00:21:29: uh Azat spiela You know replacing the guy reserves.
00:21:32: i guess in english I Would get down to six And one.
00:21:37: okay.
00:21:38: so let's why six-in-one?
00:21:40: how Can it be?
00:21:41: at world championship there's only three people playing.
00:21:43: well like There's A lot Of teams.
00:21:44: ok How could it Be?
00:21:46: In college There's five guys playing and you count four.
00:21:49: well Because there's a lot of teams.
00:21:52: Why is it the european amateur championship?
00:21:55: It's also.
00:21:56: what does that?
00:21:56: five-man teams are right.
00:21:59: Six seven
00:22:00: at some point Is a big drop off in the quality, right You nobody has five world class players on their team Right?
00:22:08: Well i got news for you.
00:22:09: in the bundesliga You win Final fours with the shoe clerks at the back The guy who's done his hobby, the guy whose you know started working and you're trying to get this guy to come to practice.
00:22:22: So I can't make it or oh watch your play tournament.
00:22:25: Oh You know i've been really busy.
00:22:28: I got to study for this test.
00:22:29: That can't be what?
00:22:30: It's all about right if you had smaller teams first of All that clubs could save a lot Of money which then they could invest in me And more quality junior work.
00:22:39: Right.
00:22:40: and number two is If you were team like sunclone humberg or something You've got some of the good players, you can say we're going to show up with these guys.
00:22:47: We'll let these guys play
00:22:48: tournaments.".
00:22:49: You could manage the quality of the individual's experience in the summer and you know this better than me, Audi because you have two months less in Summer.
00:22:58: probably if we do...in Iceland There is a time where it was from beginning May at best middle April The first weeks until September.
00:23:08: they rolled out their reluctance And everybody leaves its over Germany And you got to get all these bundles league of things in and then you've got the land.
00:23:15: this might man shots, my sister shuffling.
00:23:17: gotta Get it.
00:23:18: Then if your kids good he's on the aca accent team.
00:23:21: He's been the first team is an alarm.
00:23:23: this car that he said the friggin This carder.
00:23:26: and in the end these kids dizzy.
00:23:28: How was he gonna develop?
00:23:30: how's he going to go play The french boys house again ago?
00:23:33: play uh the english boys.
00:23:35: How's he gonna go play this the spanish?
00:23:37: How's they're Gonna Go Play the Italian?
00:23:39: To really find out in all these different conditions what has to get better In his game and also give him the experience of living Out-of-the-suitcase becoming responsible for even getting your clothes washed.
00:23:50: Hey, were we eating this week?
00:23:52: He starts learning to organize a schedule.
00:23:54: because I have said This since i've been coaching because I was Started as a playing professional but I was already starting to coach.
00:24:03: And I said two people probably my second or third year says Being a playing pro is fun, but the hard part is to travel Getting your clothes washed.
00:24:16: and in the old days that people can't imagine this for there was Google Maps You got to go down to the second stop on the number fifty four bus.
00:24:24: Looked for something.
00:24:25: walk a mile down.
00:24:26: The road on the right you'll see a sign That says God or whatever it is Right?
00:24:31: And that's where the golf course is right.
00:24:33: were we staying?
00:24:34: well There's a couple options.
00:24:36: when you get here will try to help you find a room.
00:24:38: That's what it was like, right?
00:24:39: Now you've got the internet but you still have to get all of that done.
00:24:43: I've got top players who their parents are still managing Their entry forms.
00:24:47: how can't that be?
00:24:49: these kids should be out there before they come home.
00:24:53: You're going through the Internet and planning your own schedules.
00:24:57: They just sit there wait at the land is even if you know, that's a regional level for people don't know What that means.
00:25:03: The coaches put up the schedule.
00:25:06: Oh, these are the tournaments.
00:25:07: This is where you need to be.
00:25:08: You're gonna go to this training camp and all of a sudden stuff Okay wonderful.
00:25:12: And then you try to tell me hey?
00:25:13: You need to play this in.
00:25:14: the guy goes.
00:25:15: well You know he's thirteen.
00:25:18: He's a bit young.
00:25:19: I don't think she's ready to go out and play international.
00:25:22: i'm like.
00:25:22: Well why'd you put him into team?
00:25:24: okay Why that guy who's twelve years old got a twelve-year-old kid pal bagger.
00:25:29: he has been traveling To uh Play in The Darrell Publix.
00:25:33: I've Got Him playing internationally Internationally since he is eleven years old and the kids have really a phenom physically, okay?
00:25:43: He's got good nerves.
00:25:43: He's gonna be hell of a player You know.
00:25:46: And when you get that kid at that level about early organized Then then heat he's got a good chance to succeed him.
00:25:53: You don't want if you have to fill in all these gaps as they get seventeen eighteen That you didn't take care of.
00:25:58: it should've been done at twelve and thirteen.
00:26:00: and then you wonder why you need twenty two coaches because there's so much to do with the guys.
00:26:07: The best level, okay?
00:26:09: This is how you teach You communicate They demonstrate they practice and play.
00:26:15: Okay now There are a lot of put dot ones Dot twos And dot threes in here but that basically what happens.
00:26:20: But I always say this The highest level Of teaching Is Level five And that's when you and I play a lot of golf and hit a lot Of balls.
00:26:29: When your players come back on are able to teach You.
00:26:32: now they've got it figured out.
00:26:34: i have Got my own team, right?
00:26:37: Hurley is my short game coach Right hummers the head coach.
00:26:40: wolf gun glob is an assistant To The Assistant.
00:26:43: he's pissed That He's not the Head Coach right.
00:26:46: and then i've got you know Everybody's Got Different Tasks right.
00:26:49: and i said oh i've Got My Team Assembled right.
00:26:52: and people are saying like i love the fact Hurley has he's got my eye.
00:26:58: He can see through motions, he can see people right and he says that uh You always do this?
00:27:04: And then he tells me why do you do that?
00:27:06: I go hurly you cannot be shitty and do everything Right.
00:27:10: Okay Just tell me what you want to do.
00:27:14: okay i get it ok alright.
00:27:16: and Then the fun thing is when you release a little bit of the responsibility being The smart guy to them all of a sudden the flow The the trust goes because they're not scared to make a mistake.
00:27:27: cuz you're not.
00:27:28: Scared of making mistakes.
00:27:29: That's the most wonderful part
00:27:31: Of the teaching.
00:27:32: and the guys that have stuck around the longest They enjoy helping you cause I care about you, and they know You care about them?
00:27:39: And To me i'm missing a lot of that and I go everywhere
00:27:43: like it can give you again Give your great example.
00:27:46: or that?
00:27:46: because there are guy who ordinate under the art new qualified now for the us open.
00:27:53: um I coached him from two thousand ninety to twenty-four, twenty five.
00:27:58: We split work in the club so it took more care of other guys and other ladies And he kept on with my very good coach.
00:28:08: He actually got a beautiful team around me.
00:28:10: but this guy we once bought two having some black things one for the PTA ,one for the golf club.
00:28:22: This guy He came every day and asked, can I get the petting sam from you?
00:28:28: And he said no problem.
00:28:30: So it taught him a little bit.
00:28:31: then told next day so after a week was using it and looking at them in heat.
00:28:37: Said do understand everything here yeah think so.
00:28:40: but then they always ask.
00:28:42: Then about two weeks later i needed that guy to run the petding Sam lab for PGA qualifiers both for the PGA education program And that's the guy who knew the putty some better than anybody of the PGA process, I mean after like two weeks working with that thing and as you say he could have to teach others much better then anyone new about what it was dealing.
00:29:12: Yes isn't that fun too?
00:29:13: As a coach?
00:29:13: because hell this guys teaching Hurley does that with me on that seven-part lap.
00:29:19: I got my four or five things i look at and he's got this one With the backswing transition.
00:29:23: you know where it's got those lines He goes no, no i'm transitioning to her like oh where do you see?
00:29:27: That Oh You see this and here's the graph i go.
00:29:29: okay i got that.
00:29:29: i hate graphs.
00:29:30: Okay
00:29:33: And i think actually what we are doing now because we have quite in our my golf club is not a private golf club It's like a sporting club.
00:29:42: So We have a different setup Probably one of the youngest golf clubs in Europe.
00:29:50: I think i found one In madrid that is young, but Very Young very dynamic and we have a lot of kids running around And We Have like a Seven Harrier had a system my build-up The elite System and started to do That Actually?
00:30:17: But then we start thinking, I mean... We are spending so much energy as coaches.
00:30:23: Coaching people with like they're good but never going to be really good.
00:30:30: and this is something that in the modern coaching have now put in a proposal for the golf club which stopped there.
00:30:40: That would just get more quality coaches from the age of ten to sixteen.
00:30:47: Yeah, yeah absolutely.
00:30:49: and so the goal is if you're not at Hanukkah plus with sixteen You actually go into a group where we can meet Saturdays morning at eight o'clock and hit some balls together but you have get some quality before your starting to be coached as elite player.
00:31:11: That's what my proposal was.
00:31:13: in clubs.
00:31:15: That makes sense because if you're not good enough at sixteen, it's not very likely.
00:31:19: You are going to survive as a pitcher from
00:31:23: especially If you've been playing since your ten and twelve And I know that they...I remember when I was at St.
00:31:28: Leon wrote..that was one of my big discussions with the general manager.
00:31:32: then Was well in handball or whatever.
00:31:35: It wasn't hockey band.
00:31:36: Pada says that you know?
00:31:38: You're never gonna Know who is the great players gonna be till their eighteen or nineteen.
00:31:42: i said okay So but you telling me that's fun specker can't back the power Can't go out onto the freaking hulf palsy at the school and tell you which guy he would take to try out for kicking.
00:31:53: I said if you've played golf, You see kids When they start what their eyes sharpen up?
00:31:59: And you see the focus or you see The kid who's out there practicing all of time.
00:32:03: They're kids that get it right.
00:32:05: those are the ones you invested.
00:32:07: can you spend an enormous amount Of money in time on an average kid whose you know A decent athlete and spend all the time.
00:32:16: And make him a very good player absolutely, but You don't have the resources to do that at a national level So you have to rely on?
00:32:26: The filtering system like you say from ten to twelve to fourteen To where in?
00:32:31: I've said this and Kristoff Helmhundt i know he likes This and I think this is awesome.
00:32:35: We should Have two camps a year and also Two tournaments a Year when we take our best fourteen and under kids to go play the English Whatever else.
00:32:44: the next best one is.
00:32:45: I should know that.
00:32:45: I could name a couple of them But I don't want to be whatever and then take him in a camp And let them know.
00:32:51: this is how you should be training.
00:32:52: This is the stuff You Should Be Doing.
00:32:54: Fitness wise?
00:32:55: This Is Short Game Everything In The Camps, and Then When You Go To The Tournament You Teach A Guy Hey How Do You Play A Practice Round?
00:33:02: Right That's A Huge.
00:33:04: That'S A huge Advantage If You Know How To do That Taught By Guys That Are Former Players.
00:33:09: Max Really sure I really like it Neuhoff.
00:33:13: They're starting to get him involved and he talks about stuff Like that because he was a hell of a player, I mean He wasn't by second place.
00:33:20: European Amateur won his Spanish amm?
00:33:23: I mean he Was a hellable player until he screwed up His leg right.
00:33:26: i mean really in A good guy with a lot Of good.
00:33:29: those are the kind of guys you want With Those young kids Right.
00:33:32: And once You've identified That then you got To pull them out of these regional katas and start getting them into elite kata.
00:33:39: I don't care if there's six of them, okay?
00:33:41: If it's four or one year in eight the next hallelujah.
00:33:44: but keep the elite guys with your elite guys And keep a moving forward.
00:33:48: There's too much generality going on.
00:33:50: if you sleep with dogs You get fleas.
00:33:52: Okay These alamdus katas are big and they have to be fair to different regions Of their.
00:34:00: whatever is their area Their state can get kids in.
00:34:05: But it's really pretty easy for anybody who is a good coach to go into any one of those practices and tell you if there are any good players at that level.
00:34:12: You can just see by their engagement how they do things, And thats what we got to get!
00:34:17: We've gotta get earlier and identify these kids.
00:34:20: then I'm going to say something its gonna start taking off because think about this play system in Germany...you played two or three Akhas Then from there you go to the final or the Reginald not the reagan.
00:34:33: all the land is caught of meisterschaft The state championship, you know if there's two and it's a state championship then From there.
00:34:39: You're going nuts outside.
00:34:40: If your kid from Saxon till again one these small places right?
00:34:44: You can be the best kid in Germany.
00:34:45: You don't see anybody.
00:34:46: break ninety until midsummer.
00:34:50: Your parents put you in a car And start taking around international events and guess what that costs money.
00:34:55: I Can tell you about experience because i took my son everywhere.
00:34:58: okay That costs real money.
00:35:00: And if you got more kids at home, then he's gotta go with the kid and breaks up family.
00:35:06: that is not an easy thing to do.
00:35:08: So we have to change things around To recognize talent earlier Get talent playing talent Then move that talent internationally within Europe To play against best players.
00:35:21: If u look on my website EuropeanGolfRankings.com I'm telling you what, these kids are playing twenty to twenty-five events a year.
00:35:32: Okay?
00:35:33: Big events!
00:35:34: Their system is so much better than our systems.
00:35:37: they have Grand Prix's which are like obviously big tournaments and for the juniors
00:35:44: that got
00:35:44: eight of them some even majors.
00:35:47: then all those kids go play in Spain or England.
00:35:51: They're dominating their rankings.
00:35:54: They get so many guys on tour.
00:35:56: when those guys get to the tour, they're ready.
00:35:58: They're ready.
00:35:59: We didn't even have fourteen and under rankings until a year or two ago When you know luckily kachabaya And michael scholl who do that part?
00:36:10: You know convinced the committee because there's a lot of the old guys The presidents that are in these whatever-the-hell I call those things.
00:36:17: Uh what did he called it thing for stenton?
00:36:20: That are like Well, we don't want to you know push the kids too early bullshit Bullshit.
00:36:26: You're gonna tell me a fourteen year old should be kicking up there and until he's sixteen years old before He sees somebody who is faster than them.
00:36:34: that's
00:36:36: just mind-boggling.
00:36:39: I think yeah at this after because um We have in they last it was in the muskets i think we had Was an eight or nine people from scandinavia
00:36:51: Yes.
00:36:52: And I can't remember who played for Germany, but...
00:36:58: Probably
00:37:00: nobody?
00:37:00: There was nine people.
00:37:01: and the thing is actually there's a different situation in this country.
00:37:07: quite well so it was like two Norwegian guys.
00:37:10: my daughter lives now in Norway and i visited her many times.
00:37:18: They're doing sport the whole day.
00:37:21: I mean, i've never seen anything like that.
00:37:23: they go to one gym To The next football practice they go there's just moving around all day.
00:37:30: There are there have been like speed plans.
00:37:32: is it like areas?
00:37:34: Around or this little city where kids at Just Doing stuff so their training Their body and then they've trained me them you know Fitness without even knowing because It's So much fun Because Is All around The coordination gets so good that when they start doing different sports, you know... They develop.
00:37:54: If I think of Berlin, there's nothing for the kids in Berlin to play with and be kids due to develop those skills And we need to be much more aware of it.
00:38:10: then I mean there's a different ideas of not playing tournaments or competing before the age of twelve, fourteen blah blah.
00:38:17: It doesn't really matter this amount of sport that these kids are doing how they develop their mind and body because we're lucky here in Nice Town where you still have a lot space to do it but its getting always less and less big city.
00:38:35: But thing is.
00:38:38: And then again, I wanted to mention because in Denmark if you think about it the Federation doesn't really do much.
00:38:45: That's more like a one guy.
00:38:46: that's more likely they got their own debt long and in them as Andreas Kaling.
00:38:53: He is just been.
00:38:54: he's so enthousiastic.
00:38:55: It's kind of scheme around me scared.
00:38:57: everything said.
00:38:58: people trust him and people didn't know how good of a quality.
00:39:02: So he gets the best times for him and they learn from each other.
00:39:06: And this is for me, the kind of community that it's the best thing to try.
00:39:11: if you come with your own will into some academia... You want to learn?
00:39:14: Do we want better?
00:39:16: We see all the kids there running around working hard!
00:39:21: That makes you better.
00:39:23: so There are different situations in each country in Scandinavia but They're all working a lot of space A lot of materials have done before they you know decide to be very good then of course and They are really good as ten twelve fourteen sixteen.
00:39:43: So I'm gonna tell you right now dobbie standards wave at his hand.
00:39:46: He's listening Right Now South Africa who slaughters the Germans, okay?
00:39:50: And he always brings that up piece everybody's bait left Missing facebook.
00:39:55: I always write when he puts something in there and compares how much better they're doing the germ.
00:40:00: I Always right?
00:40:00: There's a making friends P Because she just is always in your face about it, but i'll tell you why He grew up And people don't know this.
00:40:08: he an ernie ells were like best friends and actually was coached by Ernie's dad.
00:40:13: You have to play five sports.
00:40:14: in south africa
00:40:16: You have
00:40:16: to play five sports.
00:40:17: you have no other choice.
00:40:19: I'm an American.
00:40:20: i played american football, i played baseball.
00:40:22: i played basketball.
00:40:24: i even ran track.
00:40:25: You know golf was just a sideshow.
00:40:27: it wasn't till i was Fifteen or sixteen years old that i went to high school Even had a golf team?
00:40:33: You don't.
00:40:33: until then i was told to kill people.
00:40:35: i even wrestled.
00:40:36: i did everything.
00:40:36: Everything Was based on earth and somebody else right which would explain how i coach.
00:40:41: right so but
00:40:43: But
00:40:44: So You have to then say, okay Germany is never going to become that.
00:40:48: It's just not handball and soccer.
00:40:51: fussball Is so much more fun than golf because you're with the guys are running around your able to punch another guy And somebody likes it whatever it is right?
00:41:00: It really is a great environment and I love it.
00:41:03: Right but The kids we get come from well-to-do parents at golf clubs right and they're Never gonna be there.
00:41:10: So we didn't have say ok how do We look at?
00:41:11: Suddenly on road?
00:41:12: and I think Eichel Schultz Hansen a phenomenal job there.
00:41:15: He built that amazing Facility, that athletic facility at the back of the range right?
00:41:22: And you got kids coming from everywhere to go There because that's basically the only option they have and then get good physical fitness coaches.
00:41:29: hired.
00:41:29: flow Munch who is to me one The greatest You know Whatever he has fitness coachers all in the planet.
00:41:36: He knows everything about three D. the guy Is phenomenal.
00:41:40: okay Had not had that thing up now, and it's just amazing.
00:41:44: And you see their athletes.
00:41:45: they got great-great athletes there.
00:41:47: guys hit the piss out of a golf ball.
00:41:48: They're in good shape.
00:41:49: They look great.
00:41:50: so You know That goes to show you Outside of them.
00:41:56: You know I'm sure there are some clubs say oh we do fitness with our kids too?
00:41:59: And i think that's great.
00:42:00: But they've got real professionals helping those kids and especially The girls.
00:42:05: man when I go hit balls on the back of the range Next to the fitness studio.
00:42:08: I see those kids as girls doing sprints against each other and everything like that.
00:42:12: And i see The attitudes, but they have They do a phenomenal job with their girls there?
00:42:18: They really do.
00:42:19: i mean they produce Tons of good players.
00:42:22: i feel bad for A lot Of Kids That come from Other Areas Think oh i'm gonna go There and i'll be on the lpj tour.
00:42:27: well guess What you might find out that You're not going To Be because there's other Girls There and then that's why the cream kind of Rises to the Crop.
00:42:34: A lot of kids fall out to the wayside.
00:42:37: and that's not because something on does a bad job It just because when you have so many kids at some point You can only let the good ones play right?
00:42:45: And that's where your time in energy goes into.
00:42:47: it doesn't mean When that kid leaves he hasn't gotten a lot better.
00:42:50: It Just kind of shows them That.
00:42:53: uh, it just shows them that what do you call it?
00:42:57: Uh that when you get that many good players around each other that somebody is gonna be the best player.
00:43:05: And I think attitude is something that we'll talk about hopefully a little bit later, but setting the system aside for us.
00:43:12: For a minute...I mean there are young kids everywhere and their young kids all over Germany That have beautiful action.
00:43:19: they're incredibly fast They can hit it a mile.
00:43:22: Let me ask you too What do you think?
00:43:25: The things are that make the difference in whether a young player progresses to where they should progress?
00:43:35: Yeah,
00:43:36: I think it's in my experience.
00:43:40: It is always... If you're a player and need to trust the process.
00:43:48: but the process needs be really well organized and talked about.
00:43:54: You have to know where your going And the patterns there aswell.
00:43:58: then Have to Know The Path and what are constant.
00:44:01: What Is About?
00:44:03: Everybody Needs To Be At The Same in the same book and at this other page all of time.
00:44:09: It's really important, if there is no trust or cooperation it will always be hard to do so.
00:44:19: these little things are the first thing you need to make sure that everything else is there.
00:44:24: then I mean... If you cannot as a coach have more dedicated players The player has to push you.
00:44:37: He has to call your at eleven in the night and say, hey I need something.
00:44:41: he has to be more eager than You because it should never be that the post has to PUSH THE PLAYER.
00:44:48: It's all there if you want to be all the way around but the Player is pushing you too.
00:44:54: give him more cuz.
00:44:55: then you know That he is on the right side here's.
00:44:57: he wants more as if you're trying to feed them.
00:45:01: it's just like if you're giving a grass too much fertilizer, he is going to get fat and die.
00:45:08: So these are the fundamentals in way of getting player to be good but as a player doesn't bring with him It really
00:45:17: hard
00:45:17: for them To get him good.
00:45:21: I mean we all know that as well.
00:45:23: You've got so many parents who want this.
00:45:26: It is even if it's just ninety percent there.
00:45:31: Is not enough.
00:45:33: He has to be absolutely falling in and follow the process wanting it an and working hard.
00:45:41: And this what does one?
00:45:42: There's one thing I have This one word are always views in that In German or give you a half tooth now, then we need to Be curious about how can i get better than my My next next guy here?
00:45:58: If you don't have that, it's really difficult.
00:46:01: Yes yes what makes him better than me?
00:46:04: I always love...I mean i haven't personally had no problem talking to anybody my family says about me.
00:46:10: he never met a stranger.
00:46:12: okay so..i can talk to anybody.
00:46:15: and when i was on the channel sure i always played with the best players because i wanted to see what are they doing.
00:46:19: then i'm not doing right.
00:46:21: i really just want to say Was it the practice round and the practice around?
00:46:26: I kind of how do we think about this?
00:46:27: Oh, I don't like this all just played this way And forget about it.
00:46:29: No, I'm not they're not the guy lived with who was a very Very good player.
00:46:32: Ted if you're gonna win a us open You got to be able take this situation on well that was our worst advice ever.
00:46:37: Okay That looped led to you know eleven birdies in twenty two double bogies Because your turn to take on situations you're not ready for.
00:46:45: but i Think that you know i love what you said and i'm one hundred percent behind that.
00:46:50: The player then has to know He has to realize it's your responsibility To take the information and do something with right.
00:46:58: I love It had a kid today Tim catch one of my favorite guys ever, right?
00:47:04: And i've been hammering him about Stop being comfortable and waiting for the answers.
00:47:09: then start go out there and start finding you know, I figured something out and he told me because yes that's exactly right.
00:47:15: That said i do that too?
00:47:16: Yes!
00:47:17: I love it.
00:47:17: when a guy starts telling me on this shot here or figure This now You got the kid where you want Right Because Now is to be able To fix himself On The Road That Is So Huge And This Is Really Important.
00:47:29: And Germans Have A Problem With This Cause You Know Everythings Got A Dean Number, A Dorcha Identification Number Right.
00:47:35: so It Has To Be Proven.
00:47:38: Okay Its Reliable.
00:47:39: I lived with a woman who was a psychologist for four years.
00:47:44: And, and learned about psychology.
00:48:09: We're only about testing.
00:48:11: I go, what does this have to do with psychology?
00:48:13: And i realized in Psychology you Have To test things over and Over and over again.
00:48:17: You have to Go into the tests saying What results are you expecting to get out of This?
00:48:22: that proves That your formula or process as you say can predict behavior.
00:48:28: okay now what's The definition Of a successful Process?
00:48:33: it allows you to predict Behavior.
00:48:35: here is the big part.
00:48:36: It lends itself To being able to improve itself the predict behavior better.
00:48:43: So you can't just say well until it's perfect We're not gonna use it.
00:48:46: It's always evolving.
00:48:47: everything is evolving and understanding that involving in growing as part of The process, I think say an as a coach You have to be able us end the coat.
00:48:55: the head guy for France That runs their performance?
00:48:59: You know three four years he's walking around with me goes yeah, I said man you got A great job.
00:49:02: i really like your energy.
00:49:03: happy.
00:49:04: you know i'm kind Of scared sometimes if i'm going do the wrong thing.
00:49:07: Who cares?
00:49:08: Learn from it.
00:49:10: Hey, good try let's move on to this.
00:49:13: teach the kid The same thing you want him to do is say hey I didn't want a mistake It was there was a better way and we figured out There's a better.
00:49:20: wait Let's just keep moving.
00:49:22: Let's Just keep moving Frank
00:49:24: sorry Because um i think he's about lot of You know good examples, because I have two girls and they came and said where do you really want to get better in your game?
00:49:42: And both said putting.
00:49:43: So what about the putting?
00:49:44: Yeah!
00:49:44: I had a trouble reading and said at distance controls pretty much the same thing.
00:49:51: so with me tomorrow and you tell me tomorrow What are we going to be doing on
00:49:58: it?".
00:49:58: Then they went home for next day.
00:50:00: okay girls what did you find out?
00:50:03: And the one said, yeah.
00:50:04: I need to practice more and say okay what do you need?
00:50:07: To practice more.
00:50:08: Yeah just need a hit more balls in degrees is it?
00:50:11: Okay That's your answer fine What's yours?
00:50:13: so yeah i found out that there was an app I can use on the telephone to see the degrees from the green or find another system called Aimpoint.
00:50:22: So she had resource.
00:50:23: yet they're gone into The thing to learn how what was possible would help.
00:50:29: could she find two to get better at reading?
00:50:33: So these are two ways of doing it.
00:50:34: because the other ones just said okay practice, but without even having a clue what to practice and try.
00:50:43: To find solution about how to get better at this type of person personalities that you have all over them?
00:50:50: But one that sets me answers for itself when I give her little bit of an inch That's once she won't know there is going be good
00:51:00: And those people are gonna waste the least amount of time.
00:51:04: Okay, and I always tell people how can you measure frustration?
00:51:08: I measured it an amount of clubs that broke.
00:51:10: i averaged fourteen a year.
00:51:12: okay for like ten years I've launched putters in the middle of lakes.
00:51:17: I mean That's pretty high Frustration levels.
00:51:21: but I Tell it to this way.
00:51:23: so I live in Heidelberg and The A-five runs north and south.
00:51:27: So you get on the A-five and start heading to Stuttgart, driven an hour from Heidelberg to Frankfurt.
00:51:36: Now twice as far away but put all of your effort into getting to Frankfurt in a wrong direction.
00:51:42: So
00:51:42: farther
00:51:43: where you started times.
00:51:47: this is the Havelvehicle... The amount of efforts that are put into it is definition for frustration!
00:51:53: Okay, and if you're measuring frustration.
00:51:56: If you're not learning if the process.
00:51:58: You're applying is not being successful What do you do?
00:52:01: slam on brakes?
00:52:02: Evaluate get the car heading in the right direction And suddenly your frustration level goes down.
00:52:07: Oh hey or an hour down the road now back at the start But we're going into a ride directions and you laugh about it.
00:52:13: You got to learn to love about it.
00:52:15: Right you do.
00:52:16: and its this.
00:52:16: it all goes back To what we said before that if people have these business plans of what they would do What are the results they expect?
00:52:24: How are you going to approach it, right.
00:52:26: And if there's six or seven different business plans out There and near their head of the dgv whether its ecot Or if it's christoph helman i'm only speaking from the men side here Okay obviously and then just hey You know you guys ever think about They do this.
00:52:39: Hey that sounds pretty interesting.
00:52:40: Maybe we should try That.
00:52:41: Right.
00:52:42: how much more successful Are We Going To Become?
00:52:45: because right now we're just out there fishing and We got a big tackle box with all kind of different baits, so we don't even know what kind Of fish are in the lake.
00:52:51: almost you know.
00:52:52: Well?
00:52:52: Just try this.
00:52:53: I'll try This.
00:52:53: they'll try this well The old-fashioned way at the warmout something's gotta want to worm.
00:52:57: You know i mean we've got To get away from that.
00:52:59: we got to Get A little bit more scientific about it And i realize you Know They're Very Scientific About A lot of Things.
00:53:08: but i'm Just Talking About Scientific By Looking At The Overall Thing.
00:53:12: What Is Your System?
00:53:14: Maybe too scientific.
00:53:17: No, I don't think so.
00:53:18: no we as an expert need to be able To to thinking that way and deliver the not everybody to me and he science behind it Whatever.
00:53:28: but we need to Be able to to be scientific about.
00:53:32: everything allows you to measure things Frank.
00:53:34: It allows for other thing.
00:53:35: in the old days When people got fit and trust me one year my first-year time on road Man, I bought five ATXDs.
00:53:43: That was a tailor made the hottest driver man.
00:53:45: i bought four of those one year because i found out each shaft they'd sit there go.
00:53:49: oh this one goes so far.
00:53:50: you're looking at most ball speed and get on the golf course.
00:53:52: try to hit shots that want to hit The balls going sideways right?
00:53:55: So keep trying.
00:53:55: do what you're doing nowadays.
00:53:57: You sit on a trackman.
00:53:58: you can flip the shaft in inside it.
00:54:01: twenty minutes You got the perfect club for ya And when you go down on the course You know that thing works.
00:54:07: Right, but in the old days you just had to experiment.
00:54:09: There's so much science involved that everything You do I mean there's even tests people take mentally To show where are your skills?
00:54:17: Where are your weaknesses?
00:54:19: and that's The things coaches need to be aware of.
00:54:21: one of the number-one Things That you're doing as a coach is learning how that person learns.
00:54:27: That's where you go from communicate to demonstrate.
00:54:30: you have to adjust Your language to how they can interpret it.
00:54:34: One of my favorite guys The second favorite person I ever worked with in my life.
00:54:38: My first one's dead, he was my green keeper and off the time where Americans were...the second is Neil Hartgrave in Sangland Road embodies the love of the game working with kids.
00:54:48: He's a greatest guy in the world And he always had to did this second team and i have the First Team and the juniors and I sit there watching One Of His Kids.
00:54:57: We Get There Early.
00:54:57: The Kids Are All Hitting.
00:54:58: That Kid Needs To Learn How To Rotate Better.
00:55:00: I Keep Telling Me Doesn't Listen.
00:55:01: Well how do you know that?
00:55:02: Well, he's not doing us.
00:55:04: Okay?
00:55:05: So I said everybody get here.
00:55:06: i said everybody arms length apart.
00:55:08: put your arms on your chest close your eyes Turn in the backswing!
00:55:12: I said turn into falter.
00:55:14: so there you go pee He's turning.
00:55:15: that's what he thinks.
00:55:16: turning is right.
00:55:17: so we have to understand it.
00:55:19: Maybe I have to put my hands On.
00:55:20: The guy maybe has To see It In a mirror whatever it Is That he needs.
00:55:24: other guys may need to define How far should my feet be a part?
00:55:27: Should the angle of this leg better than this leg that we rotate.
00:55:30: Some guys need to know.
00:55:31: then at some point they need to understand it, but once you understand how people learn and I'm sure every pros out there listening who's ever taught a golf lesson has one or two People have come here Who get it And they think man i'm really good.
00:55:46: This guy sees.
00:55:47: he is The only One To find He understands.
00:55:48: no he Is the Only One You Can Communicate.
00:55:50: Okay, so we have to do as coaches is understand.
00:55:54: how did these people learn?
00:55:56: and that's where it all starts.
00:55:58: And then these poor kids in audio.
00:56:00: you said they have to want to learn.
00:56:02: They have to wanna get better if You teach them?
00:56:05: How they learned man.
00:56:07: So they understand.
00:56:09: this is the way you process information.
00:56:11: Yeah,
00:56:12: you're a long-long way ahead of getting his people on the fast track.
00:56:16: What would you two guys just say?
00:56:18: the way I heard it is that It was kind of confirming what you said at the beginning, Ted.
00:56:23: That there's no technical solution for a personal problem.
00:56:27: because it seems to me that when we're talking about... What makes a difference whether a young player progresses to The level of becoming a major champion or writer cut player are the intangibles Whether its mental toughness work ethic, whether itself confidence whether it's knowing how to score.
00:56:52: And Adi, you said that we don't have many coaches in Germany who are up-to the job for doing that?
00:57:02: How do you guys teach that?
00:57:04: and I think what comes into play from me is The game is built on feel and talent or whether it's build on technique in mechanics.
00:57:16: Let me just answer because Ted said that, at the beginning we as a coach are limited.
00:57:26: so you need to understand that.
00:57:28: That's why he mentioned Craig.
00:57:32: He goes through the guys who trust most.
00:57:34: I got to, you know the other side of me exactly opposite of me working with him all time.
00:57:46: So i'm good at a lot of things but he is very good at everythings what im not?
00:57:54: so and this thing which is for important.
00:57:59: we have huge team around us different people like who are specialist in different areas that Throw the kids to when they need that help as well.
00:58:11: It's about the equipment was above the mental health where it is about the fitness or the Doctors and things like.
00:58:19: so we cannot Be specialist in all areas.
00:58:23: That would be terrible for us And I will be really burners out after enough in a very short period.
00:58:30: We need to be You know aware, but we can not do everything
00:58:35: you have
00:58:37: today.
00:58:37: You
00:58:38: have to delegate.
00:58:38: And
00:58:39: I think, you have to be.
00:58:41: and when we actually system in our club which we use it's called the total player.
00:58:50: It is a very old setup but then players are in middle.
00:58:55: they get all those little things around them that connected with it.
00:59:02: We just check though with the players over time.
00:59:08: nutrition and nutritional sleep, how much are you sleeping?
00:59:11: How is that...how must we eat.
00:59:13: We go through this on the next ten days to tell us how much your sleeping because juniors need to sleep.
00:59:19: yeah but actually uh-we check all those things in a mental set as well.
00:59:24: I mean..how was your routine?
00:59:27: it hasn't developed.
00:59:28: ,how's your concentration Anger?
00:59:33: be a control and all those little things.
00:59:36: we went and I said that, We have tests for them.
00:59:38: We really do test on the regular basis to make sure these kids learn not only about hitting the golf ball.
00:59:47: if you want it successful You need know what shoes are playing with best shoes for you.
00:59:54: All this little thing.
00:59:56: And then of course Statistic, I said you're specialist.
00:59:59: in that I mean, if you're not keeping statistic how on earth are going to know what he's gonna do?
01:00:04: So there is a lot of things in this total player thing that we check with the players regularly.
01:00:12: We just because That's your need-to-do and we have meetings with them all the time And every meeting for the parents then which is trying to make them learn To be responsible from now not just for hitting the golf ball straight Yeah, it will being a total player.
01:00:30: Yes, and I'm gonna tell you something Frank.
01:00:32: You used the word which actually a Lot of people would use that don't really understand.
01:00:39: you said intangibles.
01:00:40: Okay Intangibles are things you can't measure okay?
01:00:45: We just know they're there.
01:00:46: you feel them.
01:00:46: but i got news for ya And adi Just Said it!
01:00:49: You Can Measure Almost Anything.
01:00:51: Attitude You Could Measure?
01:00:53: Is A Guy Out There Alone?
01:00:55: Does The Rain Bothering?
01:00:56: Does He Complain?
01:00:57: There's A lot Of Ways You Can.
01:00:59: You Can Measure Things that other people call intangibles.
01:01:02: Oh, he's got it!
01:01:03: Okay?
01:01:04: What does he have?
01:01:04: right if you could define what he has then you can say okay ask him hey where'd you learn to do this you know?
01:01:11: oh I was a judo.
01:01:13: uh i did judo for five years and in judo You always have to understand about keeping your balance.
01:01:20: He might be able tell you stuff That you didn't know
01:01:23: Right?!
01:01:23: You just asked the questions Asked The Questions And Then Your Always Learning.
01:01:28: I mean To Me I mean, intangibles are great.
01:01:33: That's a nice word.
01:01:34: but most things are tangible.
01:01:36: they are able to be measured.
01:01:38: okay look i understand peter.
01:01:41: oh you know.
01:01:41: the scottish the english uk people came over and taught and he used to place just be filled with u k guys.
01:01:49: They always wear the game game game all.
01:01:51: You don't need to worry about your swing.
01:01:53: well that's not true.
01:01:54: Okay it's spone itself out that It's a combination of both.
01:01:58: right but you have to be able see at each level and measure the levels.
01:02:05: where is a person's weakness.
01:02:06: But in end, progress of playing game will always found out on course with player getting him situations saying what do we here?
01:02:16: What?
01:02:17: working your favor or not?
01:02:18: work it into your favorite this thing.
01:02:20: if want all guys going back to Stefan goals key for Sean Einhaus You know, go all the way up to bank.
01:02:28: My son will admit it although he won't admitted and Mark Hummer Will tell you that I'm phenomenal caddy And it's not because i walk fast!I can tell you That right now Because when im on the ball... ...i get people playing To their strengths & understanding of weakness.
01:02:45: Hummer was there.
01:02:46: He went this last turn at fifty nine holes before he made a bogey Okay?
01:02:51: And then in the sixtieth hole where he made A Bogey The sixty first he had a horrible tee shot and we're in no man's land.
01:02:57: And now he's pissed, right?
01:02:59: Because you hit the ball beautifully.
01:03:00: it made a lot of bots and he's frustrated is going to try stupid shot.
01:03:04: I said No You're gonna pitch the ball out over there.
01:03:06: What am i going to do from their?
01:03:07: I say well again know what your gunna Do From There because if theres no unknowns Okay As long as The Balls on short grass you can do anything with A golfball.
01:03:15: So when they rescue Over the lake Over the trees In front Of Green.
01:03:19: Get into what u do better than everybody On the planet.
01:03:22: And he's like looking at me and I realized that this guy is just waiting for something to go wrong.
01:03:27: So we get pissed off, me rip to rescue.
01:03:29: all of you know where the ball is?
01:03:31: I said i do.
01:03:32: We walked around a corner lake.
01:03:33: in there It was ten meters off The green.
01:03:35: He hit the most beautiful pitch That leapt out To a foot.
01:03:38: I said There You Go mark!
01:03:39: I Said remember that your whole life rely on the things that you Do best.
01:03:44: plan Around the Things that you do Best.
01:03:46: you don't run A short guard Out At wide receiver and Tell him to Run an out route and you're gonna pass him the ball.
01:03:54: It doesn't work that way, You put people in position to be
01:03:57: successful.".
01:03:58: So when they are on a course... ...you get them play it their strengths which makes sense.
01:04:05: but then when your not of course trying spot where opportunity for improvement exists?
01:04:16: Is something like this?
01:04:18: Yeah!
01:04:18: But listen First thing you got to teach people is there are no mistakes.
01:04:22: They're just opportunities.
01:04:23: get better, okay?
01:04:25: Mentally mentally You have to teach People that resistance Is what makes you stronger.
01:04:36: so if you getting a situation where you feel like everything's against you Wow That's A great Great chance To Get mentally Stronger.
01:04:43: right?
01:04:43: you might not be able to do it Right then but If you write It down talk your Coaches every.
01:04:47: Get yourself in those bits of Wait today.
01:04:49: look this is how you need to react and when you get better, you can react this way.
01:04:52: And they say okay I got it.
01:04:53: then the frustration levels come down.
01:04:58: those are pivot points in a player.
01:05:00: They have to understand that This is really going.
01:05:01: give me an opportunity To Get Better.
01:05:04: When You Do That It's Wonderful Like Say Its An Evolving Process.
01:05:09: As Long as Your Learning Get Better People Will Stand Out There Forever.
01:05:12: Practicing They Go Out Play For All.
01:05:13: Then They Don't Mind If They Miss Some Cuts Because They Know What They Can Do At some point.
01:05:19: Not everybody can be Scotty Schaeffler.
01:05:21: Not Everybody Can Be Tiger Woods and maybe you're the guy.
01:05:24: Marcel seems a great example, I think he's an awesome guy.
01:05:27: You know that He is phenomenal athlete.
01:05:29: i've seen him throw darts not guts.
01:05:31: i seem to play ping pong pool That he guys got amazing hands right?
01:05:37: Look at him reinventing himself Got successful again extended his career Right And unfortunately for him and I remember he almost got To The Masters when he was almost top fifty but didn't get it now.
01:05:47: really feel bad For the Guy But He's a classic example.
01:05:50: he has had great life and will continue to have a good life, that is okay too!
01:05:55: All these film-wise someone should be the best player ever.
01:05:58: forget it ok?
01:05:59: He could be the Best Player he can be And That Has To Be The Goal.
01:06:03: I think we believe in that.
01:06:04: i know Adi has got go.
01:06:06: Yeah, no.
01:06:09: He'll be back but I think that's very interesting.
01:06:12: But let's take it to a close for this session and i would love To hear how you measure desire And passion Which are intangibles in my mind.
01:06:28: It is difficult
01:06:29: to make All your time coming together.
01:06:31: The longer you stay there the higher quality And the quality continues.
01:06:36: that right there is determination.
01:06:38: if you're just measuring time and not The quality of what?
01:06:41: You're putting into the time then?
01:06:44: Yeah, yeah.
01:06:45: Just wasting your time.
01:06:46: I'd rather see somebody go out for forty five minutes in Do the best he can do and go home than sit There for four or five hours talking to people Unconcentrated.
01:06:56: That Is To Me Is Really Where Are You Going Backwards?
01:07:01: You Can Measure All That Stuff.
01:07:04: Let's maybe close with this.
01:07:08: Golf is a game of scoring, the object to get the ball in as few strokes possible.
01:07:14: What makes a
01:07:18: scorer?
01:07:23: Look at Michael Jordan.
01:07:24: They talk about him and they say he'd never ever consider what was going to happen if you missed.
01:07:30: He just would have all great players under pressure In every sport.
01:07:36: Give me the ball.
01:07:38: Give me all, The guy that wants to be the difference maker Okay?
01:07:44: That's all it matters.
01:07:46: And if he misses ten times and you want to shoot your eleventh be happy okay.
01:07:50: I think thats phenomenal.
01:07:53: We have say kids who try things to say You know i think its awesome but you don't quite hit your three with two forty in a year.
01:08:01: So we need look at Approaching it different.
01:08:03: and when you hit at two forty, You can go for it.
01:08:06: Just got to show them what their limits are.
01:08:08: But you gotta love that!
01:08:11: And I probably was bad about this with Hurley... You cannot keep kids from pushing their limits.
01:08:16: People who go around in a grocery store.
01:08:20: The kid is in the shopping cart and he's reaching For stuff.
01:08:22: people think He wants that.
01:08:23: No his brain trying To learn.
01:08:25: Hey i want This thing.
01:08:26: Can i reach It?
01:08:28: And when you slap their hands, your talent stop.
01:08:30: learning is what you're basically doing.
01:08:32: You have to be very careful with that!
01:08:34: You have parents who know it's a learning process and all those trophies are not going pay the bills later.
01:08:42: But many experts talk about how golf is game of mistakes.
01:08:47: so wouldn't one secret for scoring be to eliminate or minimize the amount?
01:08:53: Make better mistake.
01:08:55: if you know what your weaknesses get yourself in position.
01:08:58: Wolfgang Glaver, who had a chance to actually win the St Andrews trophy died at the end of the second round and I actually ended up Mr.
01:09:05: Cat by one!
01:09:06: And he said to me that i wasn't feeling good or was doing this.
01:09:09: it's Wolfgang.
01:09:09: you were three under after twelve.
01:09:11: You had to be doin' something
01:09:12: well."I
01:09:13: says,"You pitched the ball off tight lies for distance better than anybody have ever
01:09:18: seen!".
01:09:19: It is easy for you so if your got a three- or four hundred then just make sure you are missing on side where can take advantage.
01:09:25: Play to your strengths.
01:09:27: There are good misses and they're bad misses.
01:09:30: I'm gonna leave you with this because i gotta call my italian girl until i'm coming To get something.
01:09:34: eat almost starve, okay?
01:09:36: I'm going to leave you With this.
01:09:37: what is the difference between a good three-footer And a bad three footer?
01:09:40: frank
01:09:42: well A good three footers goes in then about three foot or doesn't?
01:09:45: no?
01:09:46: a Good Three Footer Is.
01:09:48: You've got a long bunker shot and you hit it The three feet.
01:09:50: that's a good Three footer a Bad Three footers.
01:09:52: you had a ten footer for birdie needed at three feet by.
01:09:55: Okay, that's the difference but they're all three-foot putts.
01:09:58: You understand?
01:09:59: So I'm gonna do
01:10:01: No All about.
01:10:04: it's all about.
01:10:05: you know What's the opposite there and you have to know that right and you Have To Know That was an unforced errors.
01:10:12: They say in tennis Right if it's an unfolds there You have to realize hey i love The fact that you wanted make that Putt But we got to keep moving that ball till It goes into hole.
01:10:21: So we're talking about playable.
01:10:23: Adi, what are your thoughts on how you... What makes the score?
01:10:30: I never took on a player who came to me and said can he coach me If they were not comfortable playing for crowd if it was not able to finish a tournament?
01:10:43: Because that's some fundamentals You need bring with you if want.
01:10:46: be really good.
01:10:48: There is people who could learn this but most of the time you need to be that kind of a person.
01:10:56: I always remember one scenario at the US Open when Ricky Fowler was standing on the green and he was, it's perfect example for guy who is absolutely in here now... He was just rolling his ball.
01:11:13: maybe if your training or whatever this guy walks into almost behind him, and he's walking into the line of another player on a patting line.
01:11:23: And this guy just goes like... This backwards and pointed at his stop!
01:11:29: So who in here now is taking everything in?
01:11:32: He so much in these situations there's nothing troubling him.
01:11:38: There are just so many awareness about what he is doing.
01:11:42: If you tend to get into really a block out, and you're getting anxious.
01:11:48: You can't really feel any more.
01:11:51: You don't know the breaks or see where your ball is rolling... ...you are going to fight all of life for being good players To be a scouting guy!
01:11:59: You need to read that situation.
01:12:01: You have to see what's happening in golf.
01:12:05: And connect it with your system and brain And you need to be one with that thing, and actually it's... You learn who is there.
01:12:17: I mean i had around your son in Mallorca.
01:12:20: He was so much in every situation.
01:12:23: he never failed any of the situations.
01:12:26: And he played with another guy Who has a better ball strike, longer and everything but it doesn't understand the lay of golf, what the green is going to do with a golf ball.
01:12:36: It doesn't really understand where he needs to score again.
01:12:40: so some things you can teach and play has to bring within them.
01:12:48: So your question about that this I tend not just say to guys who have never played in depression they would want anything.
01:12:57: sorry need
01:13:02: Hurley, I mean he was incredible with the ball since he's two years old.
01:13:07: He could do stuff that i'm like wow you know?
01:13:11: We got
01:13:11: really good
01:13:14: when he had this little US kids you know lob wedge and those were phenomenal.
01:13:19: lob which is a very narrow cell sharp lineage...he would sit there in the living room And he'd put like bowls up all over high low and he'd be pitching these balls into into these bowls.
01:13:31: and I'm thinking, does that ever occur to him if he blades out?
01:13:34: He'd break our TV.
01:13:35: It never occurred to him!
01:13:37: And it's the stuff that he did naturally...and i asked him one time, I said gee whiz Hurley how do you do
01:13:42: that?!
01:13:42: He was four years old and you know what the answer was?
01:13:47: There are four kids.
01:13:51: who says You can't consciously make effort at has to come.
01:14:01: Don't think about it.
01:14:03: Well, the point is
01:14:05: that
01:14:06: he already had.
01:14:07: this was what Audi went back to.
01:14:09: This Is The Stuff He Never Questioned Himself Always Knew It Was About Getting The Ball.
01:14:13: That's All.
01:14:13: That'S all.
01:14:14: It Was Them And I Remember When You Won The EIM.
01:14:16: Jeremy Powell Hit The Ball Far Better Than Hurley Did But Hurley Managed The ball and he Had A Phenomenal Short Game As a Great Butter And Really Frustrated Jeremy Went Hurley One I'm Not A Blame Him And They Didn'T Bother.
01:14:27: Hurley Probably Liked That.
01:14:29: he knew that his short game and putting was so good.
01:14:32: It is absolutely ate away at those guys.
01:14:35: They didn't fart or embed them He did.
01:14:36: but you know, that's something has to be in there
01:14:40: And I think that's what separates great players from good players Is that?
01:14:43: You get the ball-in-the-hole even when you don't have your best game.
01:14:48: I would be remiss not to mention that one of your guys Adi Arnie Svensson.
01:14:55: Who who've you said?
01:14:57: you've been um accompanying for him since he was a small boy, qualified for the U.S Open at Chinacoc and I think it's safe to say that he will be one of your picks in Ladies and gentlemen, this will hopefully be one that the first of many coaching summits with various world-class coaches.
01:15:22: And next time you take a lesson from a guy who's never taken lessons from ask him... Who have you coached?
01:15:30: Make your decision on whether or not to take his or her lessons based upon their answers because they can take lessons from somebody like Adi Or someone like Ted.
01:15:43: You just have to go there.
01:15:44: So having said that thank you guys very much.
01:15:48: We're first and you don't ask the question.
01:15:50: well, I mean Ted, I know your easy but you're not cheap.
01:15:53: so um i think You do get the job done.
01:16:01: News it three times then ends up in their basement right?
01:16:04: I bought a T-Cat after i brought four plastic trolleys that were horrible.
01:16:08: And it's, I don't have paid one thousand myself...I've already given out a thousand and I got nothing to show for it.
01:16:12: so I said I gotta T-cat!
01:16:13: I had that thing for twenty five years since right?
01:16:17: That is why now am a trolley expert by the way.
01:16:20: Ladies and gentlemen we'll leave you with great words from Bill Harman who was friend of our program.
01:16:27: A good coach is nothing but a set of eyes.
01:16:32: Thank you.
01:16:32: You don't have that your dad.
01:16:33: Yeah,
01:16:35: thank you.
01:16:36: good luck to your guy at the US.
01:16:38: Open up
01:16:39: to the link when.
